Training

Why put your horse in training?

  • Constraints on your time.
  • Mismatch of skill with horse.
  • Seeking a higher level of performance.

Background and Philosophy

My riding background includes several breeds and types of riding.  From my 4H Quarter Horse project I went to showing Half-Arabians and National Show Horses in Country English and English Pleasure.  Then I turned to Paints, competing in halter and western events.  Along the way I have worked with warmbloods and other breeds learning dressage.  Currently I have more Quarter Horses in my program and am more focused on the working western horse.

Through the different breeds I have worked with and disciplines I have practiced I have learned that the ultimate goal of all these is to have a willing mount who will obey the lightest of cues.  My definition of a broke horse is a horse that will go forward willingly, stop softly, and yield to your leg and rein cues at any time.
